In the weeks to come, I will unfold a series of ideas that will transform the Internet.
This is not one of them. But it will serve as part of the preface. The things we are going to discuss will require tenderizing your mind like a piece of sinewy tri-tip.
Has anyone heard about http://ping.fm/? Take a look, you will see that it fills a fundamental need for many of us. Because of the success of MySpace, and MySpace 2.0 (Facebook), and a subsequent explosion of more and more vanity/identity/personality/"my" sites, ping.fm serves as a glue to notify everyone across your many points of presence, what is happening with you.
If you have an aching desire to understand what the future will bring, the fact that this ping.fm is a useful idea fits prominently into our still-early history's unfolding patterns. What am I getting at? I can't give an answer within the scope of this post.
Oh, ok, I hear you moaning. Sigh. This is the best I can do right now: I think that we are living in the dark ages, that in the near future we will look back at this period as something quaint. We will be asking, how did we ever get along in the days before the Nöosphere really began waking up? Maybe that is going a bit far out, and in my postings I have something more incremental in mind than Teilhard's Omega Point or Kurzweil's Singularity. However, if you are going to build a lattice of intellectual history, it's good to start at the end and work backwards.
Comments welcome.
