Since 1995, DrGreene.com has been providing parents with important pediatric health information to help them make the best choices for their children. Dr. Alan Greene, the site's co-founder and main contributor, has devoted himself to freely giving real answers to parents' real questions -- from questions about those all too common childhood conditions to those that address the most rare childhood illnesses.
By 2009, DrGreene.com had developed into a sprawling collection of functionality spread across numerous servers and 3rd party applications cobbled together as virtual history of the web. Registrants for different applications were found in different databases, blogs were on a Wordpress installation, and there was no unified way to manage the site and its users.
After a lengthy evaluation process, the site's producers chose Drupal as their next generation platform and chose ISL to rebuild the site. ISL brought the varied applications, from a Baby Name Finder to a Wiki-type question and answer application to the A.D.A.M. medical encyclopedia into one integrated platform. Drupal has enabled site users and administrators to now work together under the same roof with an integrated database that facilitates greater user contribution, doubled the amount of time users spend on site, media integration and more.
The flexibility of Drupal's themeing capabilities gives site administrators a wide range of control over the site appearance, allowing them to place certain blocks of content on certain pages and determine the look of each block. Drupal puts the power of site management directly in the hands of site administrators, making it an excellent choice for DrGreene.com.
